Transferring payroll data from a previous version or from Quicken Payroll

From QP version 6 to 9 From earlier versions

To use payroll data created in a previous version of Elite Payroll, Quicken Payroll, QuickPayroll or Payroll Premier, you must first upgrade the files to Elite Payroll v12 format. The process for upgrading, and the effectiveness of the upgrade will depend on what version you are upgrading from.

Upgrading from Quicken Payroll / QuickPayroll v6 to v9

When you open Elite Payroll for the first time, the Elite Payroll Upgrade Wizard takes you through the process of upgrading your company file and reports from a previous version of Elite Payroll, Quicken Payroll, QuickPayroll or Payroll Premier. You can also open the Upgrade Wizard from the Wizard menu.

1 The Upgrade Wizard is started automatically when you first open Elite Payroll, or when you select Upgrade Wizard from the Wizard menu.

When you have completed the information for each step, click Next. If you want to go back to a previous step, click Previous.

2 Click Next. The Upgrade Wizard will locate any previous versions of Elite Payroll, Quicken Payroll, QuickPayroll or Payroll Premier on your computer. Your old company data file will be left unchanged in the previous version file folder.

3 Click to þ select which files you want to upgrade. Generally, you should upgrade both Reports and Data files.

4 The list of data files will be displayed. Files that will be upgraded will have Yes in the Upgrade column. To select or de-select a file, click on the Upgrade column.

5 When you have completed all of the steps, click Finish. Your company files and reports can now be used in Elite Payroll v12.

Upgrading from an early version of QuickPayroll

If you are converting your payroll data from a version of QuickPayroll prior to v6, the conversion process does not work quite as well because of changes in data structure and features. For example, in version 3, Superannuation deductions were handled through the Deductions list, whereas in later versions, there is a separate Superannuation list.

Accordingly, after converting from a version prior to QuickPayroll v6, it is imperative that you check your data carefully. You must carefully check areas of your data where the program has gone though the most changes, in particular Employee records, Awards, and Preferences.

Before transferring your information to the latest version it is important that you have first created a reliable backup copy of your company and data files, using the QuickPayroll version that the company file was created with. For details, see Backup Files

To upgrade, you MUST have the previous version of Elite Payroll, Quicken Payroll, QuickPayroll or Payroll Premier installed on your computer.
