When setting up a timesheet award, you can set up an unpaid break so that all you have to do is enter the start and finish times, and Elite Payroll will exclude the unpaid break.
For example, if you have set up a one hour meal break, and then enter a start time of 8 am and a finish time of 5 pm, Elite Payroll will calculate the paid hours as 8 hours, automatically excluding the unpaid break.
If you haven't set up a Pay Rate for meal breaks, do the following:
1 In the Shift Pay Rate Column, type Meal Break (or similar description). Press TAB.
2 A Quick-Add pop-up window will ask if you want to add Meal Break to your drop down list. Click Setup.
3 The Add a Pay Rate window is displayed. Enter 0 (zero) in the Multiplier box. Click OK.
To enter an unpaid break, you must split the shift into the period before and after the break, and specify the break period.
When splitting up a shift and entering an unpaid break, you just set up the shift details as follows:

1 You must have a separate line for the unpaid break, and a separate line for each period before and after the break.
For example, in the example above, the first line covers the period before the break—8 am to 12pm, the second line covers the break from 12 to 1 am, and the last line covers the period after the break—1 pm to 11 pm.
2 Overtime rates are ONLY entered on the last line of each shift. If you enter overtime rates on any of the other lines, the unpaid break won't be calculated correctly.
3 The After Hours number in the overtime column includes the break period. For example, if the employee is paid overtime after 8 hours of work, and the shift includes a 1 hour unpaid break, enter 9 hours in the After Hours column.
When you process the pay and enter the hours worked, you only need to enter the start and End time. Elite Payroll will automatically calculate the unpaid period, as shown in the example below.

The result (as shown in the QuickZoom window below) is that the unpaid meal break is automatically calculated.
